Eating speed and food texture complement the hormonal effect of your medicine through a different mechanism. If you eat quickly and choose highly processed foods, you may partially undermine the effect of Mounjaro (tirzepatide) or other GLP-1 medicines, as you will have already consumed many calories before both the hormonal and behavioural satiety signals have had time to take effect. Eating more slowly and choosing less processed foods, on the other hand, makes the most of the interaction between the medicine and your own satiety signals.

What practical steps can you take to eat more slowly?

A few small changes to your eating habits can make a difference without you having to change your diet itself. Choose foods with a more natural texture more often, such as raw vegetables, wholegrain products and nuts, rather than soft, highly processed alternatives. Chew each mouthful more deliberately and put your cutlery down between mouthfuls, so that your brain has time to process the satiety signals. If possible, eat without your mobile phone or the TV on, so that you really notice these signals.
